Years and years (and years and years) ago before Nathan and I had kids, we would literally spend hours on the weekend mornings watching DIY shows. (If only we knew then what we knew now, we would have been out drinking bloody marys and eating brunch.)
Our favorites were the shows where they redid a whole room of a house without the input from the owners and used simple tips and tricks to make a whole new space. It made it seem so do able! And affordable too. It was like stalking all these amazing DIYers.
It’s probably why I like DIY bloggers so much. You get a glimpse into their lives and their amazing talents all from the comfort of your own home. They can so easily inspire you to create the same types of things in your own space.
Recently, Nathan and I found another new DIY show on the OWN network, Home Made Simple. It’s the exact kind of DIY show we like! It’s like watching your favorite DIY blogger on TV!
We were watching an episode about a woman who has started her own non profit organization to socialize feral cats and have them placed in new homes.
They were redoing her living room, a really long space in a mission style home (Oh sweet DIY gods, how I miss my old mission style house). They did a bunch of different projects, this super sweet built in shelf with antiqued mirrors as the background, a table made from a plant stand (!!) and a gorgeous tray, this fun and funky cat house from an antique tv, a dyed carpet (gorgeous!) and they showed how to add a carpet runner to some wooden stairs.
It was the perfect DIY show, because they so easily showed how to do all of the projects, like what tools you needed, how much it cost to put it together, and their reasoning for adding it to the space. Nathan and I had to pause the show like seven times, because we were so busy talking about what they were doing and realized we didn’t want to miss the next project!
