Orange Chocolate Poke Cake | The delicious combination of orange and chocolate in an easy poke cake!
So do you remember back in 2009 when Facebook was a relatively new thing? Okay, maybe it was just new to me.
Anyway. They just changed their layout which brought this little gem to the forefront of my timeline and my brain. Do you happen to remember when everyone who was cool (or thought they were cool, aka me) were writing 25 random things about themselves. {Brace yourself. This is about to become the most annoying post I’ve ever written. You’ve been warned.}
Did you want to read mine??
Did you want to read them with my comentary interspersed in there?

1. I’m a stay at home mom and I love it . . . I do not like, however, being a house wife. I suck at cleaning.  {Still True.}

2. December 21st, 2007 was hands down the most monumental day of my life. At 2:11 p.m. my son, Gavin, was born and at 8:54 p.m. my mom passed away.

3. I miss my mom every single day and love talking about her. I actually would prefer to do 25 random things about her . . . some day I may write a book about her just to fulfill this need. {Still True. Kind of why I started the blog.}

4. I am addicted to many legal things that aren’t good for me, to name a few: Jiff Peanut Butter, diet soda, reality shows on MTV, and celebrity gossip. (So far today I’ve only indulged myself in two of the four, but it’s only 4 p.m.)  {At least I can say I’ve cut back on the Jiff and the reality tv . . . }

5. As a child I was sure that I would marry a man from China. Instead, I married Nathan, and it was one of the best decisions of my life. He is my best friend and the one person I have found as an adult that I can spend multiple days with and not get annoyed. I could go on and on about all the reasons why I am lucky to have Nathan, but I think that might be a different list all together. {This has it’s own label on my blog called “i heart nathan”}

6. I’m horrible at keeping in touch with people, primarily because I hate talking on the phone. This could also explain why I love facebook. {Still True. Only I replaced Facebook with texting.}

7. I’m blessed to have many great friends who love me in spite of #6.

8. I have been to India three times and I can’t wait to go back. Some of the most peaceful and wonderful moments of my life have taken place there.

9. I love music. I love making mix CD’s and I love uploading iPods. Give me yours, I’ll make you some good playlists.

10. I have my masters degree in social work and used to do child abuse and neglect investigations for Milwaukee County. Most people think I’m crazy, but I miss it. It was challenging and exciting and I hope that when I go back to work I can find something I’m equally passionate about. {I totally never want to go back to work. I want to blog until I’m 80.}

11. I love food. So much. I love to cook new recipes and try new restaurants. I’m jealous of parents who have family in town to babysit, primarily because they get to go out to eat more than I do! I have fantasies about being a food critic and I feel lucky that I am not double my current size. {See . . . I should really just blog about food.}

12. If there is one thing that I hope I do well in life, it is being a mom. This might explain why I get a little crazy about nap schedules, what my kid eats, how often I read to him, and keeping the TV off around him . . . . I know, I will probably chill a little bit by the time I have another. {Hmmmm . . . . if today was any indication, looks like I’ve chilled out a lot . . . }

13. Making Gavin laugh is one of my favorite past times and I will go to great lengths to make it happen. Thank God I have a child who is as weird and silly as his parents.

14. Despite being very short, I wear a size 9 shoe. I feel like I have ski feet.

15. I hate winter, but I love Christmas and I think it would be really weird to live in a place that didn’t have snow at Christmastime.

16. Since having Gavin I’ve developed a new love for reading. I have also discovered the library – free books! I read a lot, but I still wish I read more. {I have cut down on reading a lot since I started blogging, and I miss it.}

17. I wish I could go to the movies every weekend, and I did before being a mom.

18. It may not seem like it (especially at this moment) but I am a pretty private person. {Bwahahahaha!}

19. I both love to travel and I am a huge home body.

20. When I got married, rather than giving up my middle name or my maiden name I smashed my first and middle together and moved my maiden to my middle. I get called “Lisa Marie” more often than I enjoy.

21. My husband and I eat at BW3’s embarrassingly often. Most people think it is because Nathan loves it . . . but it’s really me. Mmmmmm – chicken wings and giant glasses of Miller Light. {So embarrassing.}

22. I am in a book club and despite the fact that I am often in the minority of those who actually read the book, I LOVE it. It is full of fun women who are smart and carry great conversation. {My book club has since disbanded. Sigh. I really miss it and the ladies in it.}

23. In the summer we have a vegetable garden in our backyard. We grow the best tomatoes – I like to eat them straight with just a little salt.
{Is it summer yet??}

24. I love taking pictures (yeah, who knew) and I have over 1500 pictures of Gavin. I hope this doesn’t give him some weird 1st child complex. {It’s a little sad that most of my pictures are food these days. A cheesecake is not nearly as cute as Gavin & Quinny.}

25. I believe that people are basically good, and I tend to feel very sad for those who think otherwise.

26. I’m probably a narcissist.
27. I have developed enough friendships with food bloggers that I now wake up dreaming about food. Especially desserts. This is one of those.

Orange Chocolate Poke Cake

  • White or Vanilla cake mix and all it takes to make it
  • 14 oz of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 package of Duncan Hines Orange Frosting Creations
  • Chocolate filled Oreos
  • 1/2 a cup Hershey’s Special Dark topping
  • 1 tub of Cool Whip
  1. Make the cake batter according to the directions, and preheat the oven as directed. Add the orange flavoring packet to the cake batter, and stir until completely combined. Bake the cake as directed.
  2. Allow the cake to cool out of the oven about five minute before poking holes with the bottom of a wooden spoon or spatula throughout the cake. Pour the sweetened condensed milk over the cake, making sure at least a little goes in each hole.
  3. Allow the cake to cool in the refrigerator completely. (I left mine in overnight.)
  4. Thaw the Cool Whip in the refrigerator, and once you are ready to top the cake, using a hand mixer, beat in the Hershey’s Special Dark topping until completely combined.
  5. Top the cake with the chocolate Cool Whip, and top with the broken up chocolate Oreos.
