Tomorrow is Al’s Run. Tomorrow we walk.

Well . . . a lot of people are walking. I am running. This is the third Al’s Run that I’ve participated in in memory of my sweet little Elliot. But this is only the first time I’ve been able to run. The first year I was only a few weeks out from my c-section with Elliot, and last year I was only about a month out from giving birth to Quinn and not exactly in running shape. But this year, I will run.

Al’s Run is so bitter sweet for me. I get a little overwhelmed when I see all these people with my little boy’s name on their backs. On the one hand, I get choked up at the thought of all these people who have come to support us, knowing how important it is to us to honor Elliot’s memory in this way. On the other hand . . . I hate that I have my baby’s name on people’s back. I want to be the supporter. I want to be the cheerleader for someone else. I don’t want this to have happened to me. I don’t want this to be our story.

Both of these things together usually lead to me either crying or making inappropriate jokes. Sometimes both. At the same time. I’m sure it is very confusing for those around me. And even more confusing for the other walkers who overhear me. {Who invited the crazy emotional lady???}

Ah well.

So, if you happen to be participating in Al’s Run this year and you see a woman sobbing as she’s running . . . snot running down her face . . . difficulty breathing what with the sobbing and the running . . . that’s me. Try not to stare. Thanks!

This year I made a special shirt for Quinn to wear with her big brother’s name on it. Quinny has two big brothers, just like me. I used my Silhouette, freezer paper, and some fabric paint, just like with the pirate shirts. The design is the same one that is on the back of our shirts, made by my dear dear friend, Erin. I opened the PDF in Silhouette, and then traced it. Again, so bittersweet to have Quinn wear his name.

For all of you who have supported us in our participation in Al’s Run, by donating (THANK YOU!!), by coming out and walking with us, by sending sweet messages letting me know you are thinking about me, and by keeping me in your thoughts and prayers, thank you thank you thank you. Some year I will be so on top of things that I will send you all hand written notes and boxes of cookies. This is not that year. But thank you. From the bottom of my heart.

Losing a child is a never ending process of love and loss, but having loved ones support you makes it a little bit easier.
