Ingredients

  • 2 cups chopped fruit see note 1
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 - 2 tablespoons granulated sugar see note 2
  • 1/2 - 1 tablespoon lime juice see note 3

Instructions

  • Blend everything together in a large blender, using just 1 tablespoon of sugar. Taste and add more sugar if needed.
  • Strain through a fine mesh strainer. I often use the back of a spoon to help work the liquid through. (See Note 4.)
  • Serve over ice and enjoy.

Notes

  1. There are so many great fruits that work in this recipe. Pick fruits that are juicy. Melon, strawberries, watermelon, pineapple, and mango are some of our favorite fruits.
  2. Regardless of the ripeness of fruit, I have found that two tablespoons of sugar is really perfect. That being said, you may find that you want to start with just 1 tablespoon and add more depending on your taste.
  3. There are some fruits that are already acidic, like pineapples, grapefruits, and even some oranges. With these, you may find that starting out with just 1/2 a tablespoon of lime juice is your best bet. Regardless of what I'm blending, I love the full tablespoon of lime juice.
  4. Straining the liquid helps to make a smoother drink. It is completely optional, but I find it yields the best results.
