This Boat Dip recipe comes together with just a few ingredients in minutes. It will be a hit everywhere you take it – on land or sea!

No need to have a boat to make this amazing dip. It went viral on TikTok for good reason – it is so easy to make, but so insanely delicious. It is exactly what you want to have during summer parties. This dip takes minutes to make, which is perfect for me because I have very little patience when it comes to snacking. But it’s even better when you make it the night before and let it refrigerate overnight. You’ll make this over and over again.
Boat Dip Ingredients
- Sour cream: The base of the dip.
- Canned diced tomatoes and chilies: Rotel is a popular brand of canned tomatoes with green chilies that works perfectly in this recipe. Don’t drain the tomatoes; the liquid they are packed in adds flavor and helps give the dip the right consistency.
- Taco seasoning: I love to make a big batch of my homemade taco seasoning to keep on hand in my pantry. You could also use a packet of store-bought seasoning mix.
- Ranch seasoning: Homemade ranch seasoning is another pantry staple for my family.
- Diced green chilies
- Shredded cheese: My preference is always to shred cheese from the block, but since this is a cold dip and we aren’t melting the cheese you could get buy with pre-shredded cheese here.

Tips and Tricks
- How to serve: This dip is deliciously paired with potato chips, corn chips (like Fritos), crackers, pretzels, or veggies for dipping.
- Make it the day before: I love how the flavors combine after this dip has been refrigerated overnight. While you don’t have to do this, I try to when time allows.
Storing and Making Ahead
This dip can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Give it a good stir before serving, as it may settle. Always use your best discretion with dips; if they sit out for more than two hours, throw away any remaining dip.
