Baked Turkey Meatballs are a delicious lighter alternative to my Grandmother’s Italian meatballs. Baked in the oven instead of fried, they are the healthy turkey meatball recipe you’ve been looking for.

When looking for a good healthy turkey meatball, I immediately turned to my grandmother’s traditional Italian Meatball recipe. They are incredibly delicious. In this recipe, we are preserving the flavor but taking out both fat and calories by swapping ground beef and pork for ground turkey. You will love this lighter spin on a classic.

How to Make Turkey Meatballs

Here is a brief overview of how this baked turkey meatballs recipe comes together. For the full recipe, including the full list of simple ingredients and their measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

Combine Meatball Ingredients

Combine the ground turkey, egg, breadcrumbs, seasoning, and Parmesan in a large bowl. I like to use clean hands to mix everything together.

Scoop into Meatballs

Use a medium cookie scoop to scoop the turkey meat mixture into even-sized meatballs. Roll them and place them on a prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Meatballs

Bake the meatballs in a preheated oven for 15 minutes or until fully cooked. It’s a great idea to spray the foil with cooking spray before adding the meatballs.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Store any leftover ground turkey meatballs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the air fryer, microwave, or oven until heated through. Never reheat leftovers more than once. You could also use leftover meatballs to make a meatball sub.

You can also freeze these meatballs. Cook them all the way through and allow to cool. Place them on parchment or wax paper on a baking sheet and freeze for a few hours. Then transfer to a freezer-safe bag or container and store in the freezer for up to three months. When ready to eat, bake the meatballs in the oven until heated through, about 25 minutes at 350 degrees Fahrenheit, or place in your slow cooker with some marinara sauce.

Baked Turkey Meatballs are a delicious lighter alternative to my Grandmother's Italian Meatballs! Baked in the oven instead of fried, they are the healthy turkey meatball recipe you've been looking for!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey 93% lean
  • 1 egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • pinch of black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil and spray with cooking spray.
  • In a large bowl combine all of the ingredients. It works best to do this with your hands and make sure all the ingredients are well distributed.
1 pound ground turkey, 1 egg, 1/2 cup Italian bread crumbs, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, 1/2 tablespoon dried oregano, 1/2 tablespoon dried basil, 1 teaspoon kosher salt, pinch of black pepper
  • Using a medium cookie scoop (1 1/2 tablespoon size), make even-sized meatballs. Roll them and place them on the prepared baking sheet. If not using a cookie scoop, the meatballs should be about an inch and a half across.
  • Bake for 15 to 20 minutes or until they register 165 degrees Fahrenheit with a meat thermometer.
  • Serve with spaghetti and homemade spaghetti sauce. Enjoy!

These are fantastic! So moist and flavorful. I swapped out the Italian breadcrumbs for Panko and used regular bread. Served these over whole wheat pasta. SO GOOD!!!

Would love to freeze some too as well ..
How do I go about doing that ?

    • Lisa Longley says

Frozen meatballs are so great to keep on hand! Line a baking sheet with wax paper and put the cooked meatballs on them. Freeze them for 1 hour and then transfer them to an airtight container. When you go to eat them, reheat them in a little sauce in the oven (baking dish and covered) or on the stove top, stirring often.

Hi! Just made these and my kids LOVE them! I want to freeze some and see your suggestion on how to do so. My kids don’t eat them with sauce…. so if I want to heat them up after frozen can I do it in the microwave (if so, for how long)? Thank you

        • Lisa Longley says

I’m so glad that you liked them! I haven’t tried reheating in the microwave. If you want to do that, I would suggest cooking a few of them covered for about 2 minutes at half power and then checking on them. Add time (still at half power) 1 minute at a time.
