An Italian Soda is such a delicious and fun recipe. Grab a few different flavors and set up a soda bar!
My kids absolutely love exciting kid-friendly drinks as a treat. So you better believe that these Italian sodas are a huge hit for them. Made with just three ingredients, you will get such a kick out of this delightful recipe.
Italian Soda Ingredients
Just three ingredients come together to make these delicious drinks. See the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the measurements of each ingredient.
- Flavored syrup: Adds a pop of color and sweetness to the drink. The Torani brand makes a variety of flavors. I also really love Monin syrup; it doesn’t have any artificial flavors or colors. You can also get the pumps that go with the bottles for easy dispensing.
- Club soda: Use chilled club soda or unflavored sparkling water and be sure to open your club soda just prior to making your Italian sodas so the bubbles are fresh.
- Heavy cream: Half and half or whole milk would also work. If someone in your family can’t have dairy, use an alternative milk option like soy cream, coconut milk, or almond milk.
Pro Tip!
Buy small bottles of club soda. You can usually get them as a six pack. This way you can use just the amount you want and have fresh bubbly club soda each time you go to make this recipe.
How to Make Italian Soda
Here is a brief overview of how this Italian soda drink recipe comes together. Be sure to scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe, including all measurements.
- Fill a tall glass with crushed ice. Add in the flavored syrup.
- Add the club soda. Pour the bubbly club soda into the glass.
- Top with heavy cream. Stir to combine. Top with whipped cream if desired.
Flavor Combinations
The flavor options are endless for making Italian cream soda at home. We love the simple orange, vanilla, or cherry like you see in the photos. I recommend keeping the syrup amount the same, so if you mix and match syrups, be sure the total syrup amount adds up to three tablespoons. (My youngest’s favorite combo is two pumps of vanilla and four pumps of cherry.) Here are a few other ideas and flavor combinations; the sky’s the limit!
- Peach
- Strawberry
- Combine vanilla syrup with a fruit like orange (orange creamscicle) or strawberry (strawberry shortcake).
- Pineapple and coconut (hello, pina colada!)
- Cherry and lime is perfection. Make the cherry lime syrup in my Cherry Limeade for a from-scratch option.
How to Serve
Make an Italian soda bar by setting out a variety of syrups for each guest or family member to make their own Italian cream soda. My kids love to top their Italian sodas with whipped cream and garnishes like maraschino cherries or orange slices to make it extra creamy and fancy.

Treats to serve with Italian Sodas
If you are hosting a party and your soda bar is just one part of your treat line up, here are a few recipes that would pair really well.
- Biscotti is a no brainer. The original is amazing with coffee, but adding mini chocolate chips to biscotti would be great with these.
- Lemon Bars are truly delightful with these.
- Macaroons are light and simple to make, and would be great here.
If you make this Italian soda recipe or any of my other recipes, I’d love to hear what you think! Be sure to come back and leave a comment letting me know how you enjoyed it.
