This Jambalaya Foil Packet Dinner Recipe is about 30 minutes start to finish and so delicious! Whether you make it on the grill or in the oven, your family will love this recipe.

In a little foil packet, the Jambalaya has an array of green and red peppers, sausages, rice, lettuce, and many more.

I’m so happy to be partnering with Jennie-O to bring you this great easy dinner!

Jambalaya Foil Packet Ingredients

Though this is not a traditional jambalaya, it is reminiscent of those flavors. It comes together so easily that I think you will be really happy with this grilling take on it.

  • Andouille Sausage
  • Onion
  • Red & Green Bell Pepper
  • Celery
  • Cajun Seasoning
  • Instant Rice
  • Chicken Broth

Homemade Cajun Seasoning

I have several seasoning recipes on my blog, and I love them all. They are much better than what you buy in the store and I have the amounts to make a little or a lot.

My Cajun Seasoning is no exception. One of the things I love about it is that you can adjust the spiciness. So if you have little ones who are sensitive to heat, that is a great option.

How To Make a Foil Packet

  1. Place all of the foil pieces shiny side up and spray them with cooking spray.
  2. Mix all the ingredients together in a large bowl.
  3. Divide them amongst the foil pieces.
  4. Fold the longest sides of the foil up on itself and then fold down several times.
  5. Now fold in the edges. (You can see this done in the video below.)

Do I Need to Use Instant Rice

This recipe does require that you use instant rice. I realize that many people don’t keep that on hand, but if you don’t, your rice won’t fully cook.

Make In the Oven

This recipe can be made either on the grill or in the oven. Great news!

To make in the oven

  • Preheat your oven to 400 degrees.
  • Place the foil packets on a baking sheet.
  • Bake for 20 to 25 minutes.

  1. Brooke says

Can you use chicken in it also?

    • Lisa Longley says

I haven’t tried that, so you might need to fiddle with cooking times a little to make sure it gets cooked through.

  2. Amy says

What is turkey kielbasa? Not heard of that before! Could this work with chorizo?

    • Lisa Longley says

It’s a product sold by Jennie-O. You could definitely use another type of Kielbasa or a pre cooked chorizo.

    • Connie Kesterson says

I have used turkey smoked sausage for a few years now. It’s not so greasy and I think it has a better taste! Give it a try. Also it’s cheaper!

I made this for the first time and I love it!! I’m pregnant so no fuss meals are great. This was perfect and I’ll definitely be making it again.

    • Lisa Longley says

That is so great to hear Latasha!

  4. Jenny says

Could you make up the packets ahead of time and freeze them?

    • Lisa Longley says

      I wouldn’t recommend that, Jenny.

  5. Heidi Arendt says

Do you know what the calorie content would be?

    • Lisa Longley says

Sorry, Heidi, it’s in there now!

  6. Matt says

I want to try this but I feel like it would need a higher temperature and longer cooking time. Am I crazy?

    • Lisa Longley says

Matt, this recipe works great if you follow the steps listed. One person didn’t think it was enough liquid, but also made it in a casserole dish and not foil packets. I hope you give it a try!

  7. Sue says

Our family loves this recipe. I have made it several times. It’s becoming a go to easy recipe. My son asked me to make extra seasoning to have in the house. ♥️♥️♥️

    • Lisa Longley says

      I’m so glad!

  8. Catherine Williams says

Instead of four packets, can I put all the ingredients in a large foil pan and bake it?

    • Lisa Longley says

I would put it in a 9 by 13 inch baking dish, covered with foil.

  9. Ann says

I made this recipe and it was so good. I had some frozen cooked shrimp in the freezer so I added a small handful into each foil packet. It was perfect! I also used Kielbasa from Omaha Steaks instead of the Jennie O sausage. My Husband said this recipe was a keeper Thank You Lisa

    • Lisa Longley says

You’re welcome! I love that addition of shrimp!

Oh my goodness – this was delicious!!! My family isn’t huge on spicy, but we all devoured this even though there was quite the kick. My husband and daughter tempered the heat with a little sour cream, but I ate it as is and it was aMAYzing!

    • Lisa Longley says

I’m so happy you enjoyed it despite the spice! In the future, you might consider making your own Cajun seasoning and tampering down the heat in it using this recipe: Cajun Seasoning.
