Broiled salmon is such an easy weeknight dinner. With a little oil, salt, and pepper, you have a delicious main entree in less than 10 minutes. Level it up with some amazing lemon dill sauce, and you have a dish worthy of guests.

I love a great salmon dish. It is such a healthy source of protein, and it is easy to turn it into a delicious dinner without much effort. In this wonderful quick recipe (just 10 minutes total!) we are very lightly seasoning the fish with oil, salt, and pepper. Then we pair it with a protein rich sauce instead of coating it in sugary glaze. The result is an absolutely amazing entree that you can feel great about. If you are looking to eat healthier or are eating low carb, this is such a great dinner that you will want to come back to again and again.
Why this Recipe Works
By broiling the salmon with just a little bit of olive oil, we get beautiful crisp edges. We don’t run the risk of burning the top, which can sometimes happen when fish is cooked with a sugar-based marinade. Then we pair it with a cold creamy dill sauce for the perfect contrast of hot and cold together. It shouldn’t make sense, but it works beautifully.
How to Broil Salmon
Below is a brief photo overview of how this broiled salmon recipe with lemon dill sauce comes together. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe, including a full list of ingredients and their measurements.
Prepare the Salmon
Spread the olive oil over the salmon fillets. Then season with the salt and pepper. Place on the prepared baking sheet. Put in the oven under the broiler and cook for five-eight minutes, until the internal temperature of the salmon reaches 125 degrees Fahrenheit with an instant read thermometer.

Make the Lemon Dill Sauce
While the salmon cooks, whisk together the ingredients for the lemon dill sauce in a small bowl.

Put the Sauce on the Salmon
Top each piece of salmon with a dollop of dill lemon sauce and more fresh dill. Enjoy!

Tips and Tricks
- The salmon should be the same thickness: To ensure even cooking, the salmon to be the same thickness. Either purchase one big piece of salmon and cut it into four even pieces, or you can ask the butcher at your grocery store to do this.
- Avoid a bag of frozen salmon: Typically, frozen salmon filets that you buy in a bag are a variety of different sizes, making it harder to cook them evenly.
- How long to broil salmon: The best way to know when your salmon is cooked is to use an instant-read thermometer. The USDA recommends a minimum internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit for salmon. For medium, cook to 125 degrees Fahrenheit. As soon as the inside of the salmon reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the oven.
Eating Leftovers
Store any leftover salmon in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Store any remaining dill lemon sauce in a separate airtight container in the refrigerator for up to four days. The beautiful thing about this recipe is that the salmon is delicious cold, and the sauce works as a perfect dressing. That makes the leftovers ideal for a wrap or topping a salad.
