How to Make Eggnog Pie

Here is a brief overview of how this easy eggnog pie recipe comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Make the filling. In a large bowl combine the whipped topping, dry vanilla pudding mixes, eggnog, vanilla, and rum extract. While you can absolutely do this by hand, an electric mixer makes quick work of it.
  • Pour the filling into the pie crust. We save time by using a store-bought graham crust. Chill the pie for at least four hours in the refrigerator for it to set.
  • Enjoy! Place in the freezer for 15 minutes right before serving to achieve nicer, cleaner slices. Pipe some extra whipped topping and add a sprinkle of nutmeg if desired.

Pie Hack

This is a fun little hack that I’m willing to bet everyone learned before I finally figured it out. That plastic insert that covers up your store-bought pie crust can be used as a cover! Save it when you take it off, and then when you need to let your pie set, flip it over and put it over the pie using the aluminum to hold it in place as seen below.

I love this so much more than using aluminum foil or plastic wrap to cover it because it won’t alter how the top of the pie looks at all.

Homemade Eggnog

Eggnog adds a perfect creamy texture and rich flavor to this pie. Seasoned with spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, the creamy beverage has a cozy flavor adored around the holidays. Made with easy-to-find ingredients, homemade eggnog comes together on your stovetop and will be your new holiday tradition. It can be made ahead of time and comes together simply.

If you don’t want to make your own eggnog, you can totally make this pie with a store-bought carton.

Eggnog

Homemade Eggnog is so amazingly delicious, that once you make it from scratch you will never buy that store-bought container again.

Homemade Whipped Topping

Whipped cream is another key ingredient in this eggnog pie to give the filling extra fluffy and creamy. Please note that if you are using store-bought whipped topping, such as Cool Whip, it must be thawed in the refrigerator first. If you are making homemade stabilized whipped cream, you must use gelatin. You cannot simply make whipped cream without gelatin and use it as a replacement for the Cool Whip.

You can make a double batch of extra stabilized whipped cream to pipe onto the pie like in the photos. I also added a sprinkle of nutmeg after the whipped cream.

Stabilized Whipped Cream is easy to throw together with just three ingredients.

Storing and Freezing Eggnog Pie

Leftovers will last in the refrigerator for up to four days. Be sure it is covered or stored in an airtight container. (Don’t miss my hack above!) It can also be frozen and kept in your freezer for up to three months. Allow to thaw in the refrigerator.

Hi Lisa, I see an area for the nutritional info, yet nothing is showing for it. Do you have the information?
Also, being diabetic, can you use sugar free pudding and sugar free cool whip? I did not know if that would ruin the texture.
    I absolutely love egg nog.
