Lemon Drop Shot Ingredients

For the full list of ingredients and their measurements, see the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Vodka: Since vodka makes up a large part of this shot, it is important to use good-quality vodka that you enjoy the taste of. Belvedere or Grey Goose are great top-shelf options. Titos and Kirklands Vodka are great budget friendly options. A smooth vodka will blend better with the other ingredients, creating a more enjoyable, well-balanced shot.
  • Simple syrup: Simple syrup adds sweetness to the shot and helps balance the tartness of the lemon juice. It is so easy to make your own simple syrup to keep on hand for all of your favorite cocktails.
  • Lemon juice: Freshly squeezed lemon juice is best for lemon drop shots, as it provides a bright, fresh flavor. Bottled lemon juice can be used in a pinch, but fresh juice will give you the best results. To make squeezing easier, roll the lemon on the counter or microwave it for 10 seconds before cutting it open.
  • Sugar and lemon slices: A sugared rim and lemon slice make the perfect garnish.

Simple Syrup

With just two ingredients, it is so easy to make and is the perfect sweetener for cocktails. Make a big homemade batch and store it in your refrigerator so you always have some on hand.

How to Make a Lemon Drop Shot

Here is a brief overview of how this shot recipe comes together. Use chilled ingredients for best results. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Prepare the shot glasses. Rub the lemon slice around the rims of the shot glasses. Dip the shot glass in sugar.
  • Combine ingredients. Add the good-quality vodka, simple syrup, and lemon juice to a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake until the shaker feels cold.
  • Serve and enjoy! Strain into the shot glasses. Garnish the shot glass with the lemon wedge and enjoy!

How to Serve

I love serving these in a shot glass that is rimmed with sugar. The shot glasses you see here are from IKEA. You can get a six pack for five dollars.

To rim the glasses, pour a little corn syrup on one plate and a little sugar on another plate. Lightly dip the shot glasses in the corn syrup and then in the sugar.

To create the cute little lemon wedges, slice a lemon. Cut each slice into fourths and then make a slit in each fourth.

Big Batch Lemon Drop Shots

This is enough to make eight of these delicious shots! I’ve listed the amount of each ingredient below. Shake in a cocktail shaker with ice and pour into shot glasses.

  • 1 cup cold vodka
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
