This Seafood Salad recipe only takes about 10 minutes to throw together and is so much better than what you buy at the grocery store.

Seafood Salad is one of my weaknesses. You will note, that as a food blogger and generally weird person, I have odd weaknesses. Croutons, Spicy V8, and pickles are also on the list.
While it is so simple to buy seafood salad from the grocery store deli, I would urge you to make your own instead. It is so incredibly easy and a recipe that you will fall in love with.

Seafood Salad Ingredients
- Imitation Crab Meat: The base of this salad, imitation crab meat is a delicious and affordable ingredient made from cod. Though you could definitely replace it with lump crab meat.
- Salad Shrimp: I love buying frozen salad shrimp for this recipe because it is small, tastes fresh, and is always easy to find.
- Red Onion and Celery: These veggies bring a great crunch to the salad. If you don’t like celery you could certainly replace it with red bell pepper or English cucumber, removing the seeds to eliminate extra moisture.
- Mayonnaise: This makes the great dressing for the salad. I like to use light mayonnaise in this recipe to reduce fat.
- Lemon Juice: Fresh is always best when it comes to lemon juice, though you could centennially use bottled in a pinch.
- Old Bay Seasoning, Dill, Salt & Pepper
- Salt & Pepper

Make Ahead
This is a great make-ahead dish. It can be made up to 24 hours in advance. I actually love the recipe more after it has chilled in the refrigerator for a few hours.
Leftovers
This recipe will keep in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days when stored in an airtight container. I do not recommend freezing this recipe.
Serving Seafood Salad
I think that seafood salad is great on it’s own. But it is also delicious eaten on a croissant or a bun as a seafood salad sandwich. You could also serve it in lettuce or endive cups as an appetizer.

If you make this seafood salad recipe or any of my other recipes, leave me a comment and let me know what you think! I love hearing from you.

Thanks 👍 I recently made this for a Church potluck didn’t have any leftovers!!! Used gf products but wanted you to know how much I appreciate the recipe and also that you mentioned Spike seasoning in your notes. I usually use Spike in Tuna salad and stuffed mushrooms and also on a lovely avocado and mushroom sandwich but hadn’t thought of using in a crab salad also. If you don’t have any Old Bay seasoning in your pantry I’ll be the first to say get Spike or even Vegit seasoning!!! WOW 😳
I’m so glad that you liked it!

Excellent seafood salad. It’s virtually the same as we have at our favorite high end seafood restaurant, included in their “seafood tower”. We actually use a 50/50 blend of imitation and fresh crab meat. The fresh meat adds some flavor an and leaves us enough extra crab to make some crab cakes. And as you say, the imitation crab holds up very well.
Thanks for sharing your recipe!
I’m so glad you like it!

What is salad shrimp? Is it canned or frozen?
I always find it in the freezer section. It’s really tiny shrimp.

Love the recipe, except for waaaaay too salty, AND I left out all the salt, but kept the Old Bay as is. Would recommend 1/4 or 1/2 Old Bay and testing.
Is there any chance that you used table salt instead of kosher salt? That would totally account for the difference.

I saw that seafood salad packages were on sale so I bought my first one and made your version. I didn’t have any shrimp so changed it a bit. I did have Old Bay and that along with the lemon juice made it a wow! I always bought the store made stuff but that pales in comparison. I grow tomatoes during the summer and put the seafood on that and lettuce. Really good!
I also concur about the need for salt, not necessary.

I think this could be a great recipe if it was less salty. Next time I will omit the salt and probably cut down to one teaspoon of Old Bay. The salt overpowers the other flavors.
Hi Bonnie! Is it possible that you used table salt and not kosher salt? That would definitely account for the saltiness.

Delicious! My husband will have it for lunch. I had him taste it with honey mustard and also with horse radish but he said the original recipe is the best! Thank you for the recipe.
I’m so glad you both enjoyed it!

I just made this recipe and love it. Easy to throw together for a quick appetizer. I did only use 1 tbl spoon of Old Bay and no salt and loved every bite. So did everyone else! Thanks for a great recipe!!
