This chicken cobbler recipe is an easy comfort food dinner that your whole family will love. A creamy chicken and vegetable filling is topped with Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix, creating a golden, cheesy biscuit crust and a mouthwatering casserole. Best of all, it takes just 10 minutes to prep.

Chicken cobbler first went viral on TikTok in 2023 when this creator posted it. Since then, there have been dozens of iterations. In this recipe, we are changing up the order of things to get a better final texture, and making a few other changes to give you the absolute best chicken cobbler recipe.
What Makes this Chicken Cobbler the Best
The original viral recipe layers melted butter, chicken, vegetables, biscuit mixture, and sauce. I loved the ease of this method, but wondered if we could take it up a notch.
- Cut back the butter: I eliminated the stick of butter that is melted in the pan before adding the other ingredients in the original recipe. This recipe just really doesn’t need the extra fat for the bit of flavor the butter gives.
- Mix everything together first: I tested mixing together the sauce and seasonings and then mixing in the chicken and vegetables – and it was amazing. Changing how the cobbler is put together gives more evenly seasoned chicken and vegetables and a consistent creamy filling in each bite.
- Adding in cheddar cheese: I added shredded cheese in with the biscuit mix because the top is Cheddar Bay Biscuit after all.
- Adding the crust last: Finally, putting the biscuit mixture on last gives you a perfectly golden biscuit crust.
Chicken Cobbler Ingredients
- Cooked chicken: Rotisserie chicken is easiest here, but you could also use leftover chicken or cooked and shredded chicken. As you know I love keeping rotisserie chicken in my freezer for meals like this.
- Frozen vegetables: There is no need to thaw the vegetables first. I used a mixture of green beans, corn, peas, and carrots, but another 16-ounce frozen vegetable blend will work well here.
- Condensed cream of chicken soup: Using store-bought soup keeps this a 10 minute prep dinner, but you could also use a homemade soup.
- Chicken broth: You may want to consider using a low sodium broth, as the other ingredients in this recipe contain quite a bit of salt.
- Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix: I used the Red Lobster Cheddar Bay Biscuit Mix.
- Milk: I tested this recipe using skim milk, but any dairy milk will work well here.
- Cheddar cheese: Shredded cheddar added to the biscuit mix puts this over the top.
How to Make Chicken Cobbler
- Whisk together chicken broth, condensed cream of chicken soup, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper in a large bowl. Then stir in the frozen vegetables and shredded chicken so everything is coated.

- In another bowl, combine the Cheddar Bay Biscuit mix, the seasoning packet included, milk, and cheddar cheese. Spread over the chicken and vegetable mixture in the baking dish carefully. Do not mix. Then top with the melted butter.

- Bake for 45 minutes to one hour, or until the top is golden brown. Enjoy!

Tips for the Best Chicken Cobbler
- Avoid thawing the vegetables. This will keep them perfectly tender and prevent them from becoming mushy in the casserole.
- Don’t stir the biscuit topping into the filling. This will give you a perfectly crisp and golden biscuit crust.
- Continue baking until the top is golden brown. You aren’t just looking for golden edges, you want to see that in the middle of the casserole to know that it is done.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes. This will allow the cobbler to continue to thicken before serving and prevent a runny filling.
Chicken Cobbler Substitutions
- Condensed soup: You can replace the canned soup here with my homemade condensed chicken soup (or even my condensed mushroom soup).
- Different vegetables: If you don’t like the vegetable mix here, you can use other vegetables as long as they are frozen and total 16 ounces.
- Chicken options: While rotisserie chicken is the easiest choice, leftover roast chicken or chicken that you bake or boil works great here.
Storing and Reheating Leftovers
Store any leftover chicken cobbler in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat in the microwave or oven until it reaches 165 degrees Fahrenheit. Reheating in the oven will help keep the biscuit topping crisp.

What to Serve with Chicken Cobbler
Chicken cobbler is a hearty dinner all on its own, so I love serving it with a simple salad on the side. Here are a few of my favorites.
