If you like BBQ Chicken Pizza but want to make it a little quicker, this recipe is perfect. I love grabbing some shredded chicken from my freezer and using my homemade BBQ sauce. But you could definitely pick up a rotisserie chicken and some store-bought sauce when you are shopping. Either way, this is a great go-to dinner.

How to Make BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizzas

Here is a photo overview of how these flatbread BBQ chicken pizzas come together. Scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post for the full recipe, including all ingredients and their measurements.

Start with your Crust

Naan bread acts as our pizza crust, without needing to mix or bake anything. Put your naan bread on a baking sheet and top with BBQ sauce.

Combine the BBQ Sauce and Chicken

Stir together your cooked shredded chicken (I love to shred mine in my stand mixer), diced red onion, and BBQ sauce in a large bowl.

Put the Pizzas Together

Add a layer of shredded cheese, then the chicken mixture, and then more cheese. Bake until the cheese is melted and the crust is golden brown.

Tips and Tricks

  • Making homemade BBQ sauce: BBQ sauce acts as the pizza sauce in this recipe. You can make it from scratch or buy a bottle from the store.
  • Shredding cheese from a block: Pre-shredded cheese is covered in preservatives that prevent it from clumping together in the bag. I highly recommend buying a block of cheese and grating it yourself for this flatbread pizza recipe.
  • Shredding chicken: Like I said above, keeping cooked chicken in your freezer or grabbing a rotisserie chicken from the store are convenient ways to keep this recipe quick and easy. I love to put chicken in my stand mixer with the paddle attachment to shred it quickly and evenly.

Storing and Reheating Leftovers

Store any leftover BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in the oven or air fryer. Leftovers should only be heated once.

BBQ Chicken Flatbread Pizza is a fantastic, quick dinner. Made with just six ingredients, this is a great meal when you've run out of ideas.

Ingredients

  • 2 pieces of naan
  • 3/4 cup BBQ sauce store-bought or homemade
  • 2 cups cooked chicken see note 1
  • 1/2 red onion sliced thin
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese see note 2
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • chopped cilantro

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Place the naan on the prepared baking sheet. Spread a thin layer of BBQ sauce on each piece of naan. Toss the rest of the BBQ sauce with the shredded chicken and sliced onion in a medium bowl.
2 pieces of naan, 3/4 cup BBQ sauce, 2 cups cooked chicken, 1/2 red onion
  • In a bowl, mix the cheeses together. Add a little to each piece of naan. Then divide the chicken and onion mixture among the two pieces of flatbread. Top with the remaining cheese.
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Place in the preheated oven for ten minutes or until the cheese is beginning to brown. Top with chopped cilantro and enjoy!

Notes

  1. You need 2/3 pound of raw chicken to get two cups of shredded chicken. You can boil it for 4 to 10 minutes or until it is 165 degrees Fahrenheit. I highly recommend using an instant read thermometer to avoid over-cooking it. Alternatively, rotisserie chicken works great here.
  2. If you want to get the melty cheese look you see in the photos, you should buy a block of mozzarella and a block of cheddar cheese and shred them at home. Pre-shredded cheese is coated in preservatives that don’t allow it to melt like this.
