How To Season Burgers

After you mix up your seasonings, this guy will keep in an airtight container for six months. Additionally, you make enough that you can use it on 9 pounds of hamburger meat. So that is 9 times of grilling out, or 36 hamburgers.

  • Once you make your hamburger patties, you want to use one tablespoon of this seasoning on them. Just gently rub the seasoning onto each side of the burgers.
  • I typically use 1 pound of 80/20 ground chuck to make four burgers that are gently indented in the middle for best grilling.
  • The brown sugar and the seasoning crisp up on the outside of the burger making for such a great flavor and delicious burger.

What to Serve with Grilled Hamburgers

I have so many amazing recipes that would be perfect on the side of a grilled hamburger!

Could one mix the seasoning right into the meat as apposed to just rubbing it on the outside?

    • Lisa Longley says

I haven’t tried it that way yet, but I think it sounds delicious.

      • Sue Robbins says

I would like to also know about how it would be to just mix in the hamburger meat, I am not much for grilling as I am cooking for one. I think I will try to find out how it will be. Thanks for any information. Sue

    • William says

      I’m going to try that.

      • Lisa Longley says

Sorry, I tried it after this question was asked and it does work. However, you miss out on a nice little crispiness around the burgers.

        • William says

I’m thinking heat the pan a little hotter.
I want to try the mix on the outside briquet-fed grill.

Maybe put a little less inside and still add some to the outside. Super Bowl Sunday 2020. Go 49ers!! ??

I mixed it into the meat. I added 3 Tbsp to 1 lb of meat. I then made 5 burgers. It was delicious! I also added bacon to the meat.

      • Lisa Longley says

So glad you liked it Jeska!

    • Carl Pirro says

Lisa, will make this seasoning this weekend. Sounds great. As usual thank you.

      • Lisa Longley says

I hope you love it Carl!

  2. Petunia53 says

Do you add 1 tablespoon of seasoning per patty or 1 tablespoon of seasoning for all four patties? Thank you!

  3. Debbie Aguilar says

This looks great! Am wondering, is there something I could replace the brown sugar with? Trying to avoid sugars…. Thanks!

    • Lisa Longley says

Hi Debbie, I would have to play around with other options, but the brown sugar does a little caramelization that really brings this recipe home. I would hate for you to lose that.

  4. Sandra says

I mix the seasoning in the hamburger, shape the patties and then freeze for use at the trailer. It’s delicious!!

  5. Krista says

    5 stars
I have to admit I do not like eating burgers usually but with this seasoning…. game changer!!!

    • Lisa Longley says

That’s great Krista! Thank you for taking the time to come back and let me know!

  6. Monica Jenkins says

Ok, I am going to the market to get a few of the spices and gonna try it shortly..im sure this is going to be delicious!!

    • Lisa Longley says

I hope you love them, Monica!

  7. Dalene says

I want to do burgers for 25 people. How much of this season should I use to mix into the meat before making the patties and freezing them?

    • Lisa Longley says

I figure about 1 pound of meat per 4 people. So that would be 6 1/4 pounds. If you round up to 7 pounds and make 3 extra burgers, that would be 7 tablespoons of seasoning or just under 1 batch of this recipe.

  8. Pam says

I’m confused, is it 1TBSP per pound or per patty? On February 4, you replied per patty, then on Sept 2 you suggest 7 Tbsp for 7 pounds. Which is accurate?

    • Lisa Longley says

I’m sorry, Pam. You’re right it’s written really poorly. It is 1 tablespoon per pound. That being said, there really is no need to measure when you are rubbing it into the surfaces of the patties.

  9. john claybern says

will try later in the summer, will give you results

  10. Marjorie says

What can I use instead of cumin? Both my husband & I really dislike cumin. The rest of the seasoning sounds delicious.
