Grilled Asparagus is the perfect easy summer side. This recipe comes together with simple ingredients and grills up in literally minutes.

I love asparagus in just about every form, but there is something so magical about grilled asparagus. We are using the same ingredients as in my oven-roasted asparagus, but throwing it all on the grill. The asparagus grills in less than five minutes and you get the best smoky flavor.

How to Grill Asparagus

Step 1: Season the Asparagus

Place the asparagus on a baking sheet. Add olive oil, lemon zest, lemon juice, and kosher salt and toss lightly. Spread into an even layer.

Step 2: Grill the Asparagus

Use tongs to transfer the asparagus spears to the preheated grill. Grill for three to five minutes or until tender. Please note that thick asparagus spears will take longer than thin spears.

Pro Tip!

When cooking asparagus on the grill, be sure to put the thick bottom parts closest to the heat since they will need the most time to cook.

Choosing and Storing Asparagus

When you are choosing asparagus, look for stalks that are firm and straight. Good asparagus will be bright green in color, and the tips should be tight buds, compact, and free from mushy or dark spots.

If you won’t be making your asparagus shortly after bringing it home, put the whole bunch of asparagus stalks stem-down and upright into a drinking glass or glass jar with an inch or two of water. Store in the refrigerator until you are ready to grill or prepare your asparagus. You can read more about storing asparagus here: How to Store Asparagus.

Storing and Reheating Leftover Grilled Asparagus

Store any leftover grilled asparagus in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat only the portion you plan to eat in the air fryer or in a skillet over low heat until heated through.
