Margaritas are a very favorite of mine with my best friend’s family recipe for the best margaritas topping the list. These strawberry margaritas with their simple ingredients come in a close second. They are perfect for taco night, which is a regular occurrence in our house. I highly recommend you pair them with my pork tacos and make some corn salsa and homemade guacamole for the table too!

Strawberry Margarita Ingredients

Here are the ingredients that make up this frozen strawberry margarita recipe. For the full recipe including all measurements and directions for how to make strawberry margaritas, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.

  • Frozen sliced strawberries: These add strawberry flavor and the perfect slushy consistency to your margarita without watering it down. No ice cubes are needed since the frozen berries chill the drink while keeping it full-flavored.
  • Tequila: Good-quality tequila is key to making a really great batch of margaritas. For the best flavor, go with a tequila labeled 100% agave. I share more recommendations below.
  • Triple sec: This adds a hint of orange flavor that complements both the tequila and strawberries. If you want something a bit more refined, you could also use Cointreau or Grand Marnier.
  • Honey: Adds the perfect amount of sweetness to the margaritas.
  • Lime juice: Freshly squeezed lime juice is always best for cocktails.

The Best Tequila For Margaritas

Agave is the plant from which tequila is made. Choosing a tequila that is labeled 100% agave ensures that it doesn’t contain any fillers and isn’t supplemented with a lower-quality alcohol that lessens the quality and purity of the tequila. It has a clean and crisp flavor that highlights the fruity notes of the strawberries without overpowering the cocktail.

Milagro Silver is my recommendation for a good mid-level tequila that is 100% agave and absolutely delicious. I would grab Patron if you are looking to splurge, and if you need a more budget-friendly option, Sauza is great. I prefer using blanco tequila for this recipe, but you should use what you love most.

Variations

  • Vodka: If tequila isn’t your thing, you can make this recipe with vodka instead. It will not taste like a classic margarita, but it will be delicious.
  • Simple syrup: This recipe tastes almost exactly the same with simple syrup. I chose honey because it is easier to keep on hand. You could replace the honey with 1/2 cup simple syrup as the sweetener.
  • Spicy Strawberry Margarita: Add a few jalapeño slices to the blender when you combine everything. I love a good jalapeño margarita!
  • Different fruit: One of the things I love about this recipe is it is just a basic formula. You could make all sorts of different flavored margaritas by swapping out the strawberries for a different fruit like pineapple or mango.

Strawberry Margarita Recipe

Serves: 6 servings
(tap # to scale)
Prep: 10 minutes
Total: 10 minutes
This Strawberry Margarita recipe is so easy to throw together. Make a pitcher in minutes for your next party!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups blanco tequila (see note 1)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 cup triple sec or orange liqueur
  • 1/4 cup honey or agave (see note 2)
  • 6 cups frozen strawberries
  • 2 fresh limes for riming glasses
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar for riming glasses (see note 3)
  • fresh strawberries for garnishing

Instructions

  • Add the tequila, lime juice, triple sec, honey, and frozen strawberries to a blender. Blend until smooth.
  • Using juice of a fresh lime wedge, gently coat the rims of the glasses. Dip the coated rims into sugar. Fill glasses with strawberry margaritas, cut a slit into a fresh strawberry and push that into the rim of the glass to garnish. Enjoy!

Notes

  1. Milagro Silver is my recommendation for a good mid-level tequila that is 100% agave. Patron is a perfect top shelf option, and if you need a more budget-friendly option, Sauza is great.
  2. Simple syrup works great here as well. You can replace the honey (or agave nectar) with 1/2 cup of simple syrup.
  3. If you love that combo of sweet and salty, you can rim the glass with kosher salt instead!
