This Breakfast Sandwich is so easy to make, filling and delicious, and freezer friendly. Make a big batch so you can grab them for a fast breakfast!
A delicious breakfast sandwich is definitely one of my weaknesses. But the kinds you get at the drive thru are made with something that I don’t feel confident can be called cheese. Maybe they are spelling it without one of the e’s and that’s how they can still sell it.
Regardless, a great breakfast egg sandwich is so easy to make at home! One of the best parts about this recipe is that it is so easy to freeze. When you are ready to eat them, just pop them in the microwave for a fast breakfast that will keep you full all morning.
How to Make Breakfast Sandwiches
Here is a brief overview of how this easy breakfast recipe comes together. For the full recipe including all measurements, scroll to the recipe card at the bottom of the post.
- Combine the eggs and seasonings. Whisk the eggs, garlic, salt, and black pepper together until smooth. I like to do this in the basket of a metal sieve over a bowl to break up the whites of the eggs as they go through the sieve.
- Cook the eggs. Melt the butter in a small skillet and add the eggs. After about 30 seconds, pull the eggs from the edges of the skillet towards the middle. Continue doing this until the eggs are cooked through.
- Cook the bacon. You can do this in the oven, the air fryer, or over medium heat in a cast iron skillet. Read more on this below.
- Toast the English muffin. Then spread the butter over it.
- Put the sandwiches together. Place the cooked eggs on the bottom half of the English muffin. Then top it with the cheese, and finally the bacon. Top with the top of the English muffin.
- Toast or enjoy. You can enjoy the sandwich as is, or wrap it in foil and pop it in the oven for 10 minutes for more melty cheese.
Whisking Eggs
If you are a fan of the show, The Bear, you probably already saw this great trick. The second I saw it my mind was blown; it was so simple and made so much sense.
Whisking eggs over a sieve helps break up the eggs and leads to super smooth scrambled eggs. You simply place a metal whisk over a bowl. Then crack the eggs into the whisk. Whisk the eggs with a fork, the same way you normally would. They will slowly go through the sieve. It’s a simple hack, but works so well!
Cooking Bacon
You have a few options when it comes to cooking bacon for these make-ahead breakfast sandwiches. My go-to way is to cook it in the air fryer. It comes out perfectly crisp every time and you avoid the grease splatter. Making bacon in the oven is another great option.
If you make it in a skillet on the stove, be sure to remove it from the skillet just as it starts to crisp and transfer it to a paper towel lined plate.
Air Fryer Bacon
How to Freeze
Part of what makes this the best breakfast sandwich recipe is that you can make a big batch and freeze them for a quick breakfast later. To freeze these breakfast sandwiches, wrap them tightly with foil twice and place in a freezer-safe bag. Store in the freezer for up to three months.
When you are ready to eat frozen sandwiches, place them in the oven at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 15 minutes. You can also heat them in the microwave by removing the foil, wrapping the sandwich in a paper towel, and microwaving for one minute. Flip the sandwich over and microwave for 30 seconds.
Breakfast Sandwich Variations & Substitutions
- Switch up the protein: Use a sausage patty, Canadian bacon, or ham instead of or in addition to bacon.
- Change the bread: Swap the English muffin for a bagel.
- Grab a different type of cheese: We love Colby Jack and always have some on hand. It’s great in this sandwich. But if you’d prefer, Swiss or cheddar cheese would be delicious here.
- Add vegetables: Add chopped onion, pepper, mushrooms, or spinach to your egg layer. You could also add avocado or a tomato slice.
- Add some sauce: Add some hot sauce or your favorite sauce for a kick. My Chick Fil A Sauce would be delicious on this sandwich.
